Anxiety Disorders and Anti-Anxiety Treatments

Who among us has never had anything to worry about. Whether it’s learning for upcoming exams, first dates, focusing on work projects, preparing important speeches, or facing the pressures of everyday situations, no one is excluded. The amount of Americans who feel anxious or tired has increased recently. It is estimated that around 40 million Americans aged 18 and older suffer from one or more anxiety disorders in a given year – which provides a way to fear and uncertainty.
However, not all anxiety is dangerous – because it is a normal reaction to stress that helps us overcome some stressful situations. This can be a great coping mechanism. Only when anxiety continues and becomes out of control, is it no longer dangerous and becomes a deactivating disorder, and if left untreated, it can become more debilitating.
Not infrequently this disorder is combined with other physical or mental conditions, including substance abuse or alcohol, which can cause irritation symptoms or in some cases mask symptoms. Therefore, it may be necessary to treat this disease before fighting anxiety disorders.
Five Types of Anxiety Disorders :
- l. Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) – This is the most common anxiety disorder, and in certain years more than 6.8 million adults in the US – women are twice as likely to be attacked. Although it is a disorder that appears gradually, it seems to be at its highest peak during childhood and middle age. It is understood that biological factors such as background, family, and events in one’s life experience contribute to this disorder.
- 2. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) – This is a must when individuals use rituals to control persistent and irritating thoughts.
- 3. Panic Disorders – Either when you experience a terror attack that is suddenly accompanied by sweat, weakness, heart palpitations, fainting, dizziness, or all of the above, instigated by fear of doom or loss of control.
- 4. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) – This is to avoid experiences that might have developed as a result of a frightening event, which might involve physical damage, whether for yourself or your loved ones.
- 5. Social Phobia (or Social Anxiety Disorders) – This is when individuals become overzealous or anxious and very self-conscious in everyday social situations, accompanied by shame and fear of being judged by others.
Fortunately, there are many devices available in the treatment of anxiety disorders. These include anti-anxiety drugs, psychotherapy or both. However, anti-anxiety drugs alone will not cure anxiety but can help control it while waiting for psychotherapy. Many practice relaxation techniques and herbs in combination with this treatment and some choose treatment independently.
Regardless of what treatment options you are looking for, it is not necessary for individuals to suffer from anxiety-related disorders. Although this disorder may begin to be innocent, they can cause severe physical and psychological health problems.
